We affirm our spiritual beliefs by reciting our Declaration of Principles together. “The Declaration of Principles sums up what our church believes in,” says Reverend Hill. “Every Spiritualist Church has their own version, but the essence of the Principles of Spiritualism remains the same.”

Here is the Declaration of Principles as we recite it at Memorial Spiritual Christian Church. The commentary from Reverend Hill is in parentheses.

We believe in Infinite Intelligence. (“Infinite Intelligence is something very much higher than ourselves.”)

We believe that the phenomena of nature, both physical and spiritual, are the expression of Infinite Intelligence. (“Spiritual things happen all the time. It is more apparent now with the media coverage. There are magazines that publish miracles and stories of angels. There are television shows about mediums.”)

We affirm that a correct understanding of such expression and living in accordance therewith constitute true religion. (“If we don’t believe in something, we fall for anything.”)

We affirm that the existence and personal identity of the individual continue after the change called death. (“Death is life after life. When we die we are a spirit, no matter whom or what you call God.”)

We affirm that communication with the so-called dead is a fact, scientifically proven by the phenomena of Spiritualism. (“Communication is messages received from Spirit.”)

We believe that the highest morality is contained in the Golden Rule – What soever ye would that others should do unto you, Do ye also unto them. (“The Golden Rule is in the Bible. Be a good person. Love God. Love your neighbor.”)

We affirm the moral responsibility of the individual, and that he makes his own happiness as he obeys or disobeys Nature’s physical and spiritual laws. (All of nature’s laws can be summed up as, “If you give good out you get good back. You reap what you sow. If you put out caring and sharing you get it back. If you plant roses you don’t get carnations.”)

We affirm that the doorway to reformation is never closed against any human soul here or hereafter. (“It’s never too late to return to the right path with God.”)

We affirm that the Precept of Prophecy contained in the Bible is a divine attribute proven through mediumship. (“Mediumship is a person channeling and then relaying messages received from Spirit. By mediumship in a church we affirm the gift of prophecy is from God.”)
